Guidelines for osteopaths
The Osteopathy Board of Australia (the Board) expects all osteopaths to understand and apply the Capabilities for osteopathic practice (2019) in their practice.
The capabilities outline the attributes, knowledge and skills all osteopaths should show to practise safely and ethically. Further information about the capabilities for osteopathic practice can be viewed on the Board’s website.
Examination and treatment of genitalia, sensitive areas and internal techniques guidelines
The above guidelines set out our position on the appropriate consent procedures for osteopaths who utilise treatment techniques that involve:
- inserting anything into a body cavity (internal techniques); or
- the touching or treatment of genitalia or other sensitive body areas.
